I love me a good ol’ fashioned ghoulish ghost yarn, so I was pretty damn interested to check out THE INHABITANTS. The fact that it was both written and die-rected by The Bros. Rasmussen, writers of the under-rated John Carpenter vehicle THE WARD was just some sort of extra icing like substance atop the whole creepy cake.
THE INHABITANTS relays the story of a young married couple named Dan (excellent name by the way, shows great character even if he is kinda oblivious to the whole supernatural shenanigans for a lot of this flicks run time) and Jessica that find themselves the proud owners of cozy lil’ Bed n’ Breakfast that just so happens to be haunted completely up its ass. Before you can say “buyer’s remorse”, they are BD in ghostly goings-on. Well when I say “they” I mean “she” because whatever is in the house is definitely got the hauntin’ hots for Jessy-baby. As this preternatural pot-boiler roils on we get all the ghostie greatest hits and titch o’ witch for good measure.
THE INHABITANTS doesn’t try and re-invent the wheel, and that’s kinda why I dug it so much. I wanted a good old fashioned ghost story and that is exactly what I got. It’s got some real atmosphere (that bleak New England countryside and a great location), decent acting and some classic scares. It’s simply a fun haunter perfect for a cold autumn night! I recommend you check it out!!
