MICROWAVE MASSACRE is the type of flick that begins with a shot of a rotting human head in a giant cartoonish microwave before switching to the film’s titles superimposed over a giant pair of breasts…breasts that get stuck in a hole in some plywood as a construction worker eats a sandwich the size of a manhole cover with an entire crab shoved inside of it. If you’re not down with this kind of lunacy, the next hour and ten minutes are not going to be for you.
If the above description is for you; here’s an idea of what comes next. Remember that construction worker above; well his name is Donald, a put upon everyman that is getting fed up with his wife’s inedible “gourmet” microwave cooking and constant nagging. He eventually takes matters into his own hands and beats her to death with a giant pepper grinder…but he’s still hungry after missing so many meals, so he dismembers her and microwaves the remains; which turns out to be a real culinary delight. There’s only one, small problem; ol’ Donald now has a taste for microwaved human flesh (female flesh of course) which is a hunger that must be satiated!
Full of groan-inducing shtick, bottom of the barrel special effects, and lascivious antics; MICROWAVE MASSACRE is a solid gold winner in my book! Spread out over an epic one hour and sixteen minute runtime; ol’ MM never fails to entertain; even when nearly every joke and scene falls flat; it manages to hit that same sense of earnestly politically incorrect, low-rent humor laden sweet spot that Troma’s output does. For an extra layer of lunacy; our “hero” Donald is played by comedian Jackie Vernon; the voice of Frosty the Snowman in the Rankin / Bass classic animated holiday special. You haven’t lived until you’ve heard lines like “I’m so hungry I could eat a whore” delivered in Frosty’s familiar tones.
Included with this thick sliced insanity sandwich are a commentary by writer-producer Craig Muckler and a making-of featurette including interviews with Muckler, director Wayne Berwick and actor Loren Schein, an image gallery, and the film’s trailer.
MICROWAVE MASSACRE should be on the menu of any gore-hound gourmand; especially those that enjoy their monstrous main course with a heapin’ side of corny ridiculousness!
